Kutaisi

In the middle of the flow of river Rioni is located the second largest city of Georgia, Kutaisi. It is settled on the both banks of the river, at 150-300 meters above the sea level. It has moist subtropical climate. In mid-January average temperature is +5.20C, in July – +23.20C, the volume of precipitation (1380 mm) is nearly 1,5 times more than evaporation.

Archeological excavations prove that in the VI century BC there was a township there. For many centuries it played the role of important political, administrative, cultural and educational center of Georgia. Within the boundaries of the city of Kutaisi there are numerous important natural, historical and cultural sights. Not far from the city are located Sataplia sanctuary territories, Ajameti conservation area, the Pole of Katskhi, Tsutskhvati Cave, Khvamli mountain range and other natural sightseeing locations.
